“Swift Boat”- To take the advantage of an opponent and, by lie and subterfuge, turn it into a disadvantage.  It can also refer to disparaging an opponent with just outright lies.  The term derives from a strategy of attacking Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry’s Vietnam War service as fraudulent and not genuine.
